Epic ride to Austin TX and the Circuit of the Americas for the 2024 MotoGP races April 12-14. Two day ride to get to Austin with about 300 miles in the rain on the first day. Thankfully stayed at a great small motel in Booneville, AR that Mark and The Van Weeldens knew the owners. They helped us dry clothes and took us to a good Mexican Restaurant for supper.
We attended all 3 days at the track. The weather for the weekend was great, in the 70's with a lot of sunshine. There were a lot of vendors and the racing was fantastic. Alex had found great seats in turn 15 where there was a lot of passing. It was great to see an American (Joe Roberts) on the podium in the Moto2 race. All of the races were close and competitive.
In addition to the racing we attended the HandBuilt Motorcycle Show put on by Revival Cycles. Great show with a wide assortment of custom bikes of all types. BMW's were well represented with some very nice designs.
Also got a chance to check out the food scene in Austin. Tried multiple venues like Lucy's Chicken, several Diners, The Flat Track Coffee Shop, and Terry Black's BBQ (everyone recommended it). All were good especially the BBQ (wet brisket).
The 2 day ride home involved often changed routes to avoid rainy weather. We were doing good until the last 60 miles or so. Mark stayed dry, Alex got wet, and Randy got drenched.
All in all a great trip even with the rain and we all would like to go again next year.
And if this isn't crazy enough, later they put 2 young ladies in the middle and did similar stunts.
